[9/1/19] “The List” on Mashers Club, An Introduction

4 min read

“The List” on Mashers Club is a collection of reviews and opinions I’ve built up over the last six years.

As a video-game reviewer, I have written on numerous different opinion sites (Rubix Gaming, Currently Loading…, That Gaming Site, Slasher Club, Out of Frame, Quick Thoughts, N-Jay Today), and the same can be said about my movie reviews (give or take a few of those sites). I have reviews dating back three years prior to all those websites as well, but the writing in those has dwindled beyond a recoverable or tolerable standard. I’ve went back in fourth a lot on what I’m trying to do. Is this for fun? Am I a guy giving his opinion or am I a polished critic? That’s the reason some of my reviews are heralded loud and proud, and some of them are slowly added for archival purposes. Truth is though, I’m both of those things.

Mashers Club is a new website, hopefully, my final website to where I can offer my reviews and opinions on everything throughout the entertainment industry. It combines my love for sharing my opinion with others and the obsession I have with numbers, data, and processing, cue “The List”.

By clicking either the Games or Movies tab on Mashers Club, you will be able to see a comprehensive list of all the reviews I’ve written for the site so far. As of this writing, I have seven movie reviews and three videogame reviews. It isn’t exactly the end-all, be-all of lists for either, is it? This is because I want everyone to have a chance to be a part of the site as it begins. I have over 300-something reviews between video-games and movies combined. However, instead of publishing them all in a massive cluster, I decided I’d prefer to slowly place them into their respective places on The List. The List, theoretically, will one day amount to a list of my favorite videogames and movies of all time in-order from greatest to worst.

Not only that, but I wanted you guys to be around to crown the first Champion and Masher Club [Select].

It’s a lot to take in.

I know this one article won’t be the definitive explanation and that it will take a little while to find our footing while the website is in its infancy stages. Basically, the rundown is this, after I successfully exceed 50 movie reviews on Mashers Club and 25 video-game reviews, I will be able to crown a respective champion.

For example, the film How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World is currently the “best” film reviewed for The Club. There’s only 7 movie reviews posted, which means it has its work cut out for it, but if it were to be better than the proceeding 43 films, then, it would become our inaugural Champion for the Movie Section. There will also be lower-tier Championships as well. For instance, Us is the highest-rated horror film I’ve reviewed so far, which would mean that, after 25 horror movie reviews are available, if it maintains that accolade, it would become the Horror Champion. Then, the chase is on! If the Champion is able to “defend” his Title for 25 films or 20 video-games, they would earn the status of greatness, becoming an official Masher Club [Select], essentially the Hall of Fame of Mashers Club. Once there, they are taken out of Champion contention, allowing the runner-up to claim the vacant Title (the defenses are accumulative, which means if the runner-up’s had an earlier reign, they’d be able to pick up where that reign left off).

I will do bi-weekly updates on where everything stands, along with a blog talking about certain films I’m watching, movies I’m watching, so on and so fourth. I know there’s a lot of films on the horizon I look forward to watching like It: Chapter Two, as well as ones I missed in theaters like the most recent Child’s Play and Aladdin, and with Xbox Game Pass, I will be able to do timely reviews for video-games like Gears 5 and Blair Witch.

Something I’ve always wanted to do more of is themed series’, ones on the horizon I can see include easy ones like Horror Week and Superhero Week, as well as more difficult ones like a Week in China or a Week in Japan, or a Monster Movie / Game Week. This will also coordinate with how I post reveals from my vault as well.

I hope to see many of you as I embark on this new goal as I work out the kinks and create a clearer picture for success. I will see you guys on September 15th for the next blog post.
